Golden Brodie barks: Houston is the top dog

That Harvey is hurting so many in Texas…it’s beyond my dog sensibilities.  But…Houston is showing a strength that goes beyond great organization to save lives…rises above human differences…seeks to flat-out help everyone in need…in peril…in danger.  Houston…you even opened up the Houston Convention Center to thousands of folks in need of a safe and dry place…and you let them bring their pets.

See… many people when rescued from the floodwaters would not leave their pets to drown or starve while they fled to safety.  They would not leave their pets behind…they were sticking with their animals.  So…Houston you stepped up in a big way yet again by allowing pets with their owners into the Houston Convention Center.

In closing, there are also animal rescue boats out right now…looking for abandoned pets…stranded pets… Paws Up…Safety first…prayers for all to survive and come another day with golden sunshine.

Golden Brodie’s heart is in South Texas

This hurricane thing called Harvey is a very bad person.  It’s beyond me why anyone would place such destruction and sadness…anywhere.

Now, I have never met a hurricane and I sure hope that my family and loved ones…my area…my home…my beloved Virginia…anywhere for that matter…never comes in contact with the likes of a Harvey.

Remember…safety is always at the center of my golden retriever messages.  So, humans have a plan when you know you are going to meet such a beast, as Harvey…and be sure that your plans cover your pets…your livestock…they are counting on your good common sense and caring.

Have a plan.

Golden Brodie barks… before, during and after the Solar Eclipse

Here comes a truly golden moment on August 21 in the United States..a total solar eclipse. Now…depending where you will be standing that day during the eclipse…you are in for a memorable experience.

I’m a dog… so you might think that when the sun goes dark… because I don’t need to wear protective eye glasses… that I will be clueless and not respond to something celestial.  Wrong!  Consider that the animals, birds, bugs, snakes, certain plants, etc…could react to the unusual midday darkness.

So, let me suggest that while not only looking up and watching the solar eclipse…you pay attention to what’s happening in the natural world 30 minutes before, during the darkness…and 30 minutes after. Your observations could be of interest to you and others.  For sure, you’ll always remember this event and how the world around you reacted.

Remember safety first…you gotta be wearing your solar eclipse glasses to look up into the sun…or perhaps you’ll view the phenomena through that cereal box apparatus that you made…whatever you do…try not to miss this…according to NASA you’ll have to wait until April 8, 2024, for another total solar eclipse over the United States.

Golden Brodie gulps on canine water

Summertime and the living is…hot…dog days hot.  Sure, it affects me more than I’d like to admit.  I think my golden coat…which I happen to like…it defines me in many ways…but my thick undercoat keeps me boiling hot during the last summer months.  How do I deal with it…shade…lots of water and of course, air-conditioning…as do you.

My humans…I see you walking around with bottled water in hand…bottled water in the car cup-holder…water…water…water.  So, my dog self gets a fresh bowl of water each AM and replenished often… based on my needs.  Gotta stay hydrated!  I even have a “Chill out” collar to wear outside on these super steamy days.

When dunked in cold water, this collar cools my dog skin around my neck.  I like it, although blue is not my color.

Paws up for this yellow lab messing with the hose water…a canine cool down.

Golden Brodie chews on some grass

Sometimes a dog just gotta be a dog…you know eat things that humans find disgusting…like an old sock or a rank morsel out of the trash can or some strange thing lying along the sidewalk.  And yes, grass…green grass especially during the growing season.

Yes, I am golden guilty of munching on grass.  I really have no explanation…other than I like it…I guess.

But if you need a scientific reason why we canines eat grass, then read this article by the American Kennel Club.

And remember, safety first…so make sure those socks are not on the floor, close that trash can and keep an eye out for something weird your dog might want to grab and gobble on your walks.  Paws Up!

Brodie barks fire, fire save animals from fire

My golden self is always looking to share self-less moments…yeah…golden stuff…when folks set-up to help others in need…in harms-way…helping humans and yes, animals.

We’ll let’s paws (pause) and place a golden thank you spotlight on the firemen and women who put themselves in harms way…giving of themselves…devoting their training and skills to saving lives…of the four-legged.

Brodie barks “Safety first for furry friends”

I’m a retriever…you know a lowland gun dog…a go get it and bring it back golden dude…noise does not phase me..however, there are those dogs among us…who are fearful of what the 4th of July and surrounding days brings…popping, loud sounds that are very out of the ordinary.

So, please follow some simple suggestions that will help keep my furry friends stress-free.

And remember my golden rule…safety first!  Now go chow down a hot-dog and finish it off with a piece of apple pie…that would be my choice anyway.

Brodie looks up for the HDD Drone

Acronyms are part of our world…so go retrieve this one that I created…HDD Drone..Hot Dog Delivery Drone…yeah Oscar Mayer Wiener is working on dropping you a dog…get on with yourself…watch this video and be sure to wait for the Wienerdrone…

Dogs and ice cream…Golden Brodie gives the scoop

Hey, it’s summer and I need to keep my dog self cool…so there’s nothing like seeing a small scoop of Dog Paws ice cream hit my dog bowl. Talk about disappearing…I can get that gone real quick.
But seriously…some dogs can eat ice cream…just gotta do your homework.  Another cool treat is frozen blueberries…man those little things are heavenly. Stay cool and Dog Paws Up!

Golden Brodie barks: Amelia, where are you?

Dogs…that’s right…four border collies trained in finding long-buried bones are sniffing out the discovery of a life time…an answer to whatever happened to Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan?

Well…the four are searching… wearing booties to protect their paws from 80 degree ground temperatures, hundreds of thousands of coconut crabs and sharp volcanic rock fragments.  Sound like fun?  Yeah, these well-trained dogs are doing their job and going for the find of their dog lives.

These dogs can hunt!  Seriously…hoping they find the remaining bones of Amelia so we can put her to rest in our hearts and minds…that would be a golden moment for all.
