Feels like Monday this Tuesday morning.

WARNING: DO NOT GIVE CHOCOLATE TO DOGS…it’s makes DOGS SICK! Thank you…Now continue….
Here’s a quick tidbit about St. Valentine’s Day…it’s not just a day to send chocolates and cards…it’s a celebration of a priest during the 3rd Century… named Valentine who stood up against a powerful Roman Emperor. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
So, as an imprisoned priest, Valentine sent the first “Valentine” from behind bars to a woman he loved..he wrote to her “From Your Valentine”….and so we continue.
Dogs can’t send cards but we sure will do our best to spread joy and happiness on this most red day. What a golden Saint and what a golden celebration! Happy St. Valentine’s Day! Paws up…and please don’t give dogs chocolate!
I work daily at expanding my golden horizons. Each day my training broadens my possibilities of one day perhaps being a therapy dog…so I’m riding elevators now. Elevators are just a fact of life that I will need to understand as my world broadens. Gotta not be thrown by those doors that seemingly suddenly open sideways…acclimate to the up & down feeling in my dog gut when the box stops or takes off going up…gotta walk into that box and sit down…give peeps their space…move to the back…you know all of the etiquette of elevator riding. Next time you ride one…look for this name OTIS. I noticed that OTIS is always in those boxes. Here’s why.
In 1853, the inventor Elisha Otis demonstrated his stellar emergency spring that allowed a platform to stop and suspend itself. That day people who attended P.T. Barnum’s Traveling World’s Fair in New York, gasped with disbelief when Elisha stood on a platform raised 40 feet in the air…and with his swift sword slashed the rope that held him & the platform mid-air. The platform dropped only a foot and stopped… And that my friends was the beginning of Otis Elevator Co. that lead to safe elevators and the construction of those “skyscrapers” we all admire.

Just a little info nugget for ya…let’s go ride some elevators. Pick up those paws!
Meow! Yes, that is where this is going. My golden retriever whiskers want you to read some feline facts about cats who lived in The White House...beginning with Thomas Jefferson all…the way through to George W. Bush. I personally enjoyed learning that “Once, during a winter visit to General Grant’s headquarters, Lincoln rescued three half-frozen kittens from a Civil War battlefield telegraph hut. He tucked them in his coat and brought them back to the White House to join Tabby before finding a good home for them.” Tabby was Tad’s cat, Lincoln’s son.
Just think…rescuing animals has been going on since people have cared. Now…now that is a hopeful ending. Meow and peace peeps.
I know that the Washington Post is known annually for its listing of What’s In and What’s Out as we approach a New Year. Well, I can’t wait… my golden dog ears and eyes have been keenly listening and observing, ready for the scoop…or the poop…which ever you prefer to call this. So….read on and consider my golden outlook on the in and out list… be sure to recall what events occurred this year…and oh …what a year it has been…Peace baby

My golden dog sled is ready to take me to the official lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the South Lawn (the backyard) of the White House on Thursday, December 1. But wait, how did this 94-year-old tradition get its start?

When our 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, along with his family, celebrated their first Christmas in the White House…they decided to have a tree for all of the people. So, on December 24, 1923, the first official National Outdoor Christmas Tree was lite.
This event has evolved into a huge televised celebration with entertainment and something for every peep that continues throughout the holiday season. For instance, The National Hanukkah Menorah Lighting Ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 25, 2016, 4 p.m.
I’ll close with some words to the wise. Trees inside can blow a dog’s mind… we become challenged to maintain our cool with the tree and decorations and all…so think about how to help us do the right thing...help us avoid watching the sad clean ups and pet shame…we want a happy and calm time. I’m just saying…Here comes the season to be jolly (and wise about the four legs in your home.)
P.S. For you cats out there…maybe this will help ya’ll stay off the tree and on the floor. Good luck with that.
I have a new dog diet…it’s golden exciting when something from a can hits my dish…yeah something soft…something that resembles meat…a lick the bowl clean commodity…something that smells like pate instead of just the lonely pebble like kibbles that bounce into my bowl each morning and evening. Don’t get me wrong…I am grateful and I gobble whatever lands in my bowl…but this stuff is something I could not have dreamt up. HeHe says he thinks he could eat is on cracker! Seriously!?!
Now that we’re on food…this article 11 Things Only White House Employees Know...gives insight to the transition of the sitting president leaving the White House and the incoming president-elect moving in…even talks about the transition of food. That was my favorite section.
I share this gastronomic epiphany with you to enlighten you peeps…yes dogs like “up” cuisine and Hail to the Chief’s food. Paws Up!

The golden in me wants to get close to you, lean on you…maybe lick one of your ears. See dogs are really good at knowing human upset…good at reading your emotions…good at feeling your unhappiness…feeling your joy.
So…please allow me to move in on you if you are working through some feelings…some emotions related to the outcome of our presidential election last night. I was with my people and although I didn’t understand…I read the room and moved into my humans…giving my golden self to my good peeps. I never miss an opportunity to get pets…if you read the researched article…science “has no clue” how a dog’s brain works…but I get it…we just need ya and you need us.
We all need each other…
As we approach the “end game” on November 8th some peeps out there have drawn…what I’ll call silly conclusions about sizing up the voters…Perhaps because this is nail-biting time, getting off of the fence time…voter fatigue time…don’t know what else to do with myself time…loose your mind time…turn off that sponsored campaign ad time. Read this and have a golden chuckle…we could all use some levity right now…
…in the end we share more than is realized…go vote…you’ll only regret what you don’t do…paws up!

Reflecting here… what have we learned during this presidential campaign for POTUS term 2017-20??!…I must admit that my golden confusion has stayed with me through this whole process…Let me share…I consistently opined that my golden outlook kept me square in the middle…no right…no left…in the center, mid, midway…try to do that sometime…it’s quite the challenge. I endeavored to uplift all elephants and donkeys…I focused on the facts…sometimes with drool comments…excuse me… droll comments. There was never a leak coming from me…until today, however…I could not help this…My thoughts took me to the day after the election…November 9th…the day after…and I leaked. I realized that I must prepare myself…either way…I must lay golden ground work thoughts for the next administration…donkey or elephant. Hopefully, many folks will also formulate their feelings and thoughts and go for the gold…rise above and help our country move forward…for the good…for the nation…for the same boat.
