Brodie learns about food rationing

It’s Thanksgiving soon and we are all consumed with the associated thoughts of feasting, family and friendship.  How fortunate I feel.  My peeps will have one familial event recorded on their many cell phones, iPads, 35mm cameras and Skype. Then they’ll post the stuff on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on.  The social aspects roll on.  That’s todays fun and entertainment.

I want to take you back to two periods in our USA history…a time when we were at war, WWI and WWII.  I bring this up because during those difficult years we as a nation buckled down.  Food was scarce.  Food went first to the troops.  People bought limited amounts of certain commodities through rationing…ration stamps. So my golden mind took me to those times, thinking about what Thanksgiving was all about then…

Rationing came into place by our government and families were strongly encouraged to eat simply…meatless meals…and forget about sugar.  What a prized commodity sugar became…and coffee…and flour…yes the very basics.  I’m thinking everyone worked together, helped out and got involved in the war effort…while missing their stuff.

I feel golden sure that on Thanksgiving Day folks were even more grateful for whatever they had as they struggled.  But then…the food was secondary for those who had loved ones serving in the war…those who had lost a loved one…and those who simply felt the unrest of not knowing what the future held.

Our country held together and came out on this side of freedom both times.  This Thanksgiving season I’m going to say a special thanks to those serving our nation and especially to those away from home …and a special moment for those who we have lost…we will remain forever a grateful nation.

So this Thanksgiving, my grateful heart will enjoy watching all of the cell phone action, getting my many pets and walks and giving out my goldeness.   Peace baby and paws Up!

P.S.  Dogs don’t do coffee but…How fortunate that you can have as many Starbuck’s with all of the sugar possible…all of the cream…whenever…

Brodie licks pumpkin and dreams of turducken

We’re getting ready for Thanksgiving. The peeps are talking who’s making what…what’s the final head count?…who ordered the Turducken?!…the what??? yeah, that’s a deboned chicken stuffed into a deboned duck, further stuffed into a deboned turkey…did you get that?  Now I must admit my dog lips would love to grab some of that…no such luck…I don’t get people food…but then I do.

Thanksgiving time always means I get some celebration in my dish…like canned pumpkin mixed lightly in my evening meal. The pilgrims and Native Americans liked pumpkin and so do I.  Funny part is that throughout the year if my dog insides start having problems, I get served some canned pumpkin to get me regular and settled…but Thanksgiving reaps the bounty of the pumpkin just because I get something special and it’s really good for me.  Now, while I really appreciate the canned pumpkin and it’s nutritional rewards…I do wish for and would give thanks for some of that three-layered foul thing landing in my bowl.

Giving thanks and feeling grateful.

Brodie served “Up” food and the White House Kitchen

I have a new dog diet…it’s golden exciting when something from a can hits my dish…yeah something soft…something that resembles meat…a lick the bowl clean commodity…something that smells like pate instead of just the lonely pebble like kibbles that bounce into my bowl each morning and evening.  Don’t get me wrong…I am grateful and I gobble whatever lands in my bowl…but this stuff is something I could not have dreamt up.  HeHe says he thinks he could eat is on cracker!  Seriously!?!

Now that we’re on food…this article 11 Things Only White House Employees Know...gives insight to the transition of the sitting president leaving the White House and the incoming president-elect moving in…even talks about the transition of food.  That was my favorite section.

I share this gastronomic epiphany with you to enlighten you peeps…yes dogs like “up” cuisine and Hail to the Chief’s food.  Paws Up!

Brodie wants Lulu to visit the White House

Transition…the transition of one sitting president to the president-elect taking the position of POTUS 2017 began this morning.  Regardless of party…regardless of political opinions…these two men came together in a fine way…they both agreed…we all can make our world a better place…united.

Having said that…with goldenness in my heart..read about Lulu.  She is a golden doodle therapy dog who helps folks with the grieving process…by just simply being there.  Grieving takes on many forms…not just in death but also during times of immense change…not knowing what to expect.  The golden in me thinks Lulu and dogs like her could help many peeps during this transition period.

Paws up and many blessing on Lulu.

Brodie gets close and licks your ear

The golden in me wants to get close to you, lean on you…maybe lick one of your ears.  See dogs are really good at knowing human upset…good at reading your emotions…good at feeling your unhappiness…feeling your joy.

So…please allow me to move in on you if you are working through some feelings…some emotions related to the outcome of our presidential election last night.  I was with my people and although I didn’t understand…I read the room and moved into my humans…giving my golden self to my good peeps.  I never miss an opportunity to get pets…if you read the researched article…science “has no clue” how a dog’s brain works…but I get it…we just need ya and you need us.

We all need each other…

Golden Brodie researches a good chuckle for donkeys and elephants

As we approach the “end game” on November 8th some peeps out there have drawn…what I’ll call silly conclusions about sizing up the voters…Perhaps because this is nail-biting time, getting off of the fence time…voter fatigue time…don’t know what else to do with myself time…loose your mind time…turn off that sponsored campaign ad time.  Read this and have a golden chuckle…we could all use some levity right now…

Brodie yaps on about meeting a Waterloo

Heard this name the other day…Made a golden point to read up about Napoleon Bonaparte…seems this larger than life tactical, conquering guy who became an emperor… who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century…experienced continuing success at building his empire…and then…he meet his Waterloo?!…What is that??…Well, it’s the thing that one of the candidates for POTUS 2017 will be owning after all the votes are in and counted on November 8th.  Hard fought on both sides…both candidates had their moments of seeming unbeatable…but now the waters are cresting…running freely and there is no stopping the outcome…history in the making.

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”  Buddha

…now that is a golden thought.

Brodie opined, shifted then sifted then the leak

Reflecting here… what have we learned during this presidential campaign for POTUS term 2017-20??!…I must admit that my golden confusion has stayed with me through this whole process…Let me share…I consistently opined that my golden outlook kept me square in the middle…no right…no left…in the center, mid, midway…try to do that sometime…it’s quite the challenge.  I endeavored  to uplift all elephants and donkeys…I focused on the facts…sometimes with drool comments…excuse me… droll comments.  There was never a leak coming from me…until today, however…I could not help this…My thoughts took me to the day after the election…November 9th…the day after…and I leaked.  I realized that I must prepare myself…either way…I must lay golden ground work thoughts for the next administration…donkey or elephant.  Hopefully, many folks will also formulate their feelings and thoughts and go for the gold…rise above and help our country move forward…for the good…for the nation…for the same boat.

Brodie drops “The List” for Election Day

Amazing that over 10 million elephants and donkeys have already voted for their POTUS….as of October 29th…and November 8 is drawing near..the drop dead date…the final…the closing bell…the bottom-line…the jig will be up date.  So, I put together a golden list for your consideration…for those of you who are choosing to vote in a traditional manner…voting on THE DAY in your assigned polling place.  Remember that I am a dog and therefore cannot vote…but this would be my list to follow if I could…

  • Rise early and consume a healthy breakfast.  Avoid doubling down on anything…that’s over… and by all means “avoid any challenges such as “I triple-dog dare you to vote for ….Stand firm even if you feel the ground rocking under your paws…sorry feet.
  • Be sure to bring your Rabies Certificate…my bad… State Driver’s License.
  • Greet all donkeys and elephants who are working the entrance and exit polling.  Greet all who are running the voting process.  Grab some good karma while waiting.
  • Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil while waiting in the voting line.
  • Do not take a selfie while voting.  If you have a child/children, take them…lovely teaching moment.
  • Remember loose lips sink ships.  Keep it to yourself.
  • And finally, do not procrastinate… as we all know this can possibly lead to blocked bowel syndrome.
  • Vote and proudly wear your sticker.
  • Do not chase your tail…forgive me… don’t pace the floor during the returns.

Brodie looks up to the Lady

The Statue of Liberty arrived in New York City on June 17,1885, giving nationwide excitement to the USA after making her journey across the Atlantic. She was a gift from the French government.  Her dedication took place on October 28, 1886 and she has spread her light of freedom and liberty forever since for 130 years. She is our rock.  She symbolizes such goldenness…that is not a word..I know…but…it’s my way of saying how very special this Lady is to me.

During these challenging times, let’s remember her.
